What is stress?

What is stress? According to Dr. Hanse Selye, the scientist who first talked about it. “It is the non-specific response of our body to any demand we put on it”. This is a reason why the stress can be positive (eustress), or negative (distress).

Positive is when something agreeable comes to our lives, something we like and makes us happy or content. On the other hand, it can be negative, when it is something we dislike or has a negative impact on our feelings. An example of this is frustration, anger, being agitated, when you must meet a deadline, or when you are afraid of doing something new.

Effects of Stress

When you live under long periods of negative stress, this can lead to emotional disorders developing depression, worry, anger, anxiety, illnesses (because of the impact in the immune system), bipolar disorders, lack of concentration, lack of self-esteem, deficiency in school children, and much more.

All this indicates that STRESS is a normal reaction in our daily lives. It depends on what you do, or know what to do, to control it, to stop the effects of negative stress on our health. When something affects us negatively for a long period of time, the stress becomes unhealthy.
